I read kids books and I like them. They are easy to read. Anyway this book won the newberry honor book in 1997. So it's quite an old book. But this one a new cover illustrate in 2012. Well it's copyright 2012 by Christopher Silas Neal.

Anyway the story is easy going about a 12 years old girl, Gypsy and her cousin, Woodrow whose mother just recently disappear. What you don't know is her father is also dead. Towards the end of the book you'll find out that he commit suicide cause beauty is important to him. Is about Woodrow knowing the truth about his mother but never tell anyone bout it. He is good at storytelling. He has a vivid imagination.

Took me two and half hour to read this book. When Woodrow mentioned bout him and his mother saving money for his eyes operation (oh, he is cross-eyed) and he saved $30 so far and Gypsy asked where the money had gone to, I already know what happen to the mom. She obviously had ran away. So ya I don't know if kids can detect it.

But overall it's a good story. Taught you lessons on how people cope with losses and beauty is not everything.
